Aftercare is very important for the proper healing of your tattoo!
Make sure you always follow your specific tattooer's instructions.
Second Skin
I use the brand Recovery Derm Shield
After leaving the studio
-
Leave the bandage on for 3-4 days untouched.
-
Liquid will collect under the bandage, creating a blister-like appearance. Avoid touching.
-
Around day 2-3 the liquid will begin to reabsorb. This is normal!
-
On the 3rd or 4th day, use warm water to help slowly remove the bandage from your skin. There will be a mirror image of your tattoo on the bandage. This is normal!
-
Using your hand and an anti-bacterial soap, gently clean your tattoo of any adhesive residue and liquid. Continue cleaning morning and night.
-
After cleaning, apply a thin layer of your favorite unscented moisturizer or ointment 2-3 times a day, or as needed to aid the dry, flakey process of healing.
Avoid for at least 2 weeks
-
Picking or peeling your tattoo
-
Excessive moisture (sweating, swimming, saunas, etc)
-
Direct sun exposure
Redness, swelling and bruising are all very normal and expected side-effects.
*Although uncommon, an allergic reaction to Recovery Derm Shield is possible. If the tattooed area begins to be very painful or break out, please remove the bandage as soon as possible and skip to the washing instructions. Be sure to inform your future tattooers that this method is not for you!

Plastic Wrap
If you are allergic to adhesives, or your tattoo is very minimal, we will use plastic wrap!
After leaving the studio
-
Take plastic wrap off in 4-5 hours or once you get home.
-
Once the wrap is off, using your hand and an anti-bacterial soap, gently clean your tattoo and pat dry. Continue cleaning morning and night.
-
After cleaning, apply a thin layer of your favorite unscented moisturizer or ointment 2-3 times a day, or as needed to aid the dry, flakey process of healing.
